The Substance of Me
Whenever I’m doing readings or running workshops, people ask if I have a blog. I do, but not a personal one dedicated to the substance of me — until now. Here you will find information about my writing, my readings as well as anything else that I find interesting, funny or weird enough to merit a post. After all, the purpose of this blog is entertainment and information as opposed to an excruciating account of the minutia that is part of daily life.
I also appear online at Social Issues at Suite101.com

Hi Julie, I was hoping you might pass the following information on to students and/or on your blog:
Rusty Axe Games is sponsoring the “Pump up the Purse” writing contest.
Don’t worry; It’s free to enter and you retain all rights to your work, although contestants who progress in the contest will have some of their work serially presented on our website.
Here’s how the “Pump up the Purse” system works:
The base pot of $200 USD grows by $2 for every story added to the contest until we either hit 150 stories or April 30th, 2007, for a maximum purse of $500. We are looking for fiction in the 17,000 to 40,000 word range. Any genre is acceptable, although entries featuring gratuitous violence or sex may be disqualified at the judge’s discretion. Hello Julie
Thanks for your support of Berton House. Believe me we are raising hell from this end; got our MP on it. Talked yesterday to the Yukon’s minister of culture and they are on board so is our mayor.
By the way did you ever sent the books you for the Berton House, Dawson Library and the Yukon library? I’m afraid I haven’t received anything from you.

Thanks for asking. Fab news! The Writer’s Trust of Canada has taken over the maintenance of the Berton House at the cost of approx. $50,000 per year. Very generous of them and the artistic community in Canada is very grateful — especially writers from coast to coast to coast. Writer’s Trust Director, Don Oravec, when talking about Berton House said, “Our dream of course would be to get a $1 million endowment.
I share his sentiment.

Hi Julie,
I stumbled across a link to my website from your blog and although i thank you it seems that the URL is wrong. It’s actually http://www.marlinolynyk.com and not marlinolynyk.com. I really appreciate the link.
Glad to see that you have unaided vision back. Take care and thanks again.
Marlin.
