William’s Lake Young Writers Conference 2009

Huge thanks to the students who attended the Second Annual Young Writers Conference in Williams Lake, British Columbia last week. Except for the plane ride back to Vancouver, which left me shaken and thankful to be on the ground again, I enjoyed myself immensely. The students in my workshops ranged in age from grade seven (Marie Sharpe Elementary School) right up to grade twelve. Each one of these students had something of value to offer to the workshops and I applaud these budding young writers for their high level of participation. They shared their thoughts, their ideas and their writing -not an easy thing to do, even for seasoned writers.

There was something for everyone: poets, future illustrators and children’s authors, young adult authors and those interested in self-publishing or how a book is created. Besides myself, other author/workshop leaders included:

The success of the conference was largely due to the incredible vision and work of William’s Lake transplant Amar Sull. Thank you Amar for bringing me together with so many talented young people.
